Dr. Cynthia Jewell Schade (aka Thia Grace)

Dr. Cynthia Jewell Schade (aka Thia Grace) -- owner of Active Life Chiropractic Clinic and founder of The Light of South Austin; gifted chiropractor and healer; beloved daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend -- died in the company of her dear friend, Donna Lou Stevens, on the afternoon of August 10, 2025 in a multi-car collision on FM 165, Blanco County, TX. Cynthia’s sun rose on March 11, 1956 in San Francisco, CA. A graduate of the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, she began her career in Florida and then moved to Austin, TX, staying in the area from 1991 until her untimely death. She worked with thousands of patients over the 3+ decades she practiced in Austin, mostly under the auspices of Active Life Chiropractic Clinic aka ALCC. She became well-known, well-respected and well-liked as a healer and trustworthy friend; a woman of many passions. In her personal life, Cynthia enjoyed horseback riding, dogs, nature/parks, opening her home and pool for varied social occasions, live music, traveling, visual art, and any opportunity to converse with others about healthy lifestyle choices [or whatever else of consequence was on their minds & hearts]. A lifelong dedicated healer, Dr. Schade studied many techniques and alternative healing modalities which she integrated into her practice. Patients and friends say she prided herself on customizing her treatments and providing spiritual and emotional, as well as physical healing in various sets of individual circumstances. Cynthia relentlessly pursued her vision(s) and made a difference in many people’s lives. Her unfinished projects now humbly pass to the hands and inspiration of others. Her giving spirit and integrity cannot be forgotten. She is and will be greatly missed. She was dedicated to her extended family as well as her profession. Preceded in death by her parents, Sigmund and Martha Schade (née Currier), she is survived by her sisters, Rebecca di Luce of Austin and Marilyn Musielski of Madison, NJ, as well as two nieces, two nephews, two great nieces and one great nephew, and all those who were touched by her and mourn her passing. A Celebration of Life has been planned for November 1st, 2025 (All Saints’ Day) and is open to all who knew her and wish to honor her in community.
