Rodney Dale Wilson

Rodney Dale Wilson, 68, of Austin, Texas passed away, to be present with the Lord, on Monday, February 17, 2025 (President’s Day). He was born on January 3, 1957, to his biological parents in Houston, Texas. He was adopted, as a baby, by Bennie Junior Wilson and Charlene Pearly Love-Wilson, the only parents he knew, who loved him dearly. Rodney grew up in Spring Branch, Houston, TX and graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1975 where he was on the football team and was known as a prankster. This earned him a few detentions and “swats” by his teachers (yes, teachers employed capital punishment back then). He spent many summers in Palestine, TX with his relatives on the Wilson side of the family, where he developed his love for hunting and fishing with his cousins, his dad, and uncles. As a young boy, he once hunted with his cousins, armed with BB Guns, for Blue Jays, much to his dad’s anger. He quickly taught him, “you don’t hunt unless you are going to eat it”. Rodney said, “they taste like chicken!” He learned that lesson and carried it throughout his life while hunting. During and after high school, Rodney worked as a painter for his father’s paint contracting business, B.J. Wilson Painting in Houston, TX, and then, when his parents relocated to Kerrville, TX, he continued to paint with his dad’s business. He didn’t enjoy painting very much. So, he relocated to Austin and took a job working for a used appliance repair and resale business, where he learned to repair some types of appliances. He decided to apply for a position as an appliance repair technician, which he wasn’t sure he had acquired enough knowledge for this, but he took a chance and was hired. He worked, for many years, learning all types of appliance repair from his boss, Randy, whom with he developed a close friendship, for many years. They often deer hunted together. He ventured out on his own and started Red’s Appliance Service. Being self-employed he worked part-time for the last 14 years allowing him to semi-retire at 62 years of age. Rodney was known as “Redneck” to many because of his love for Country Western Music, Western Wear, his black Stetson hat, he often wore, and his country lifestyle. He loved everything “Country”, especially old country music, TV series, and movies. He often watched Gunsmoke and the Virginian reruns: his favorites. He was a gun enthusiast, and he had his license to conceal carry. He was on the ERT (Emergency Response Team) for his Church (FBC Leander). Rodney had a great sense of humor, loved to tell jokes, was very social. He didn’t know a stranger, so he made many friends. He is preceded in death by His parent’s Bennie Jr. (Slim) and Charlene Pearly Wilson, “sister” Pam “Sissy” Fraser, Uncles; Albert Edward Wilson, Herbert Cobble Wilson, James Robert “Bob” Wilson, John Wilson, Henry Corley, Edgar Love & Paul Love. Aunts; Marie Hall, Sarah Alice Wilson, Cousin; Wanda Pennington. He is survived by Uncles: Delmer Dean Wilson, Donny Love, and Aunts; Annette Hamby, Wanda Corley, and several Cousins; Colleen Schoellkopf, Connie Harrison, James Corley, Mike Hamby, Roger Hamby, Rhonda Linson, Janice Molandes, Donna Richards, Jennifer Ormand, Brandy Wilson, Diane Wilson, Johnny Mack Wilson, Billy Jack Wilson, Joyce Bambeck, Cecil Wilson, Bonnie Berryhill, Lorie Greaves, & several nieces, and nephews. He was loved and will be sorely missed by Sylvia O’Brien and her son Kenneth O’Brien, who were his family for the past 15 years. A reception lunch will follow at the Church Hall. There will be a private burial at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079.
