Gary Lee Chancellor

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Lee Chancellor, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on January 8, 2025. Born on February 23, 1954, in Houston, Texas, to Erna and Alfred Chancellor, Gary lived a life full of passion, laughter, and love that touched everyone he met. Gary was a man of many talents and interests. He found joy in the thrill of racing cars on the weekends, where his competitive spirit earned him the name "Godfather of Racing'. His love for hunting took him to the vast landscapes of Kansas, where he spent countless winters sharing cherished moments with his son, all the while building a remarkable collection of trophies that told the stories of his adventures in the great outdoors. Fishing and gardening were also close to his heart, grounding him in nature and providing him with tranquility and purpose. Gary's laughter was infectious, lighting up any room and bringing warmth to the hearts of those around him. He had an extraordinary gift for seeing the good in everyone and everything, a quality that endeared him to friends and strangers alike. His creativity flowed through his welding business, where he crafted countless medal art pieces that are displayed through the town, a testament to his artistry and passion. Family was everything to Gary. He cherished his role as a grandfather, showering love and affection on his five grandchildren—Madeline, William, Chainy, Charlie Jo, and Blakey—who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. He often said that being a grandfather was one of the greatest gifts life had to offer. Gary is survived by the love of his life Debbie, whom he married 51 years ago, on October 12, 1973, and his two cherished children: daughter Angela Chancellor, son Gary Lee Chancellor II and daughter-in-law Angel Chancellor. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Jeannie (Tommy) Conlon, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who will all miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, and along with many aunts and uncles. Though he may be gone, the legacy of love, laughter, and passion he imparted will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. As we celebrate Gary's life, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives, the countless stories he told us, and the memories that will forever be etched in our hearts. He lived fully, loved deeply, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to find the good in every moment, just as he did. Rest in peace, Big Gary. You will be missed beyond measure.
