David Scott Amburgey

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Scott Amburgey, lovingly known as Scott, who passed away on August 30, 2026, at the age of 54. Scott was born March 31, 1972, in Seymour, Indiana, to Hillard David Amburgey and Karen Sue McKnight. His family moved to Austin, Texas, when he was one year old, where he grew up and later built a life and family of his own. Family was deeply important to Scott. He lovingly remembered his grandparents, David and Imagene Everroad, and enjoyed reminiscing about growing up with his brothers, Jason and Matthew. Some of his favorite childhood memories were the surprise adventures his father, David, created by loading the boys into the car without telling them where they were going and then pulling into a carnival, park or somewhere else fun. Scott treasured his mother, Karen, and his stepfather, James McKnight. James taught him many things, including how to grill a good steak - something Scott later loved doing for his own family. No matter his age, Scott loved sharing his accomplishments with his mom. Making her proud always meant something to him. Hardworking and driven, Scott spent more than 10 years with Sprint Wireless and worked his way up to regional manager. Javed and Salim became important mentors and lasting family friends. Later, Scott and Sally took on the adventure of owning Ambur Fire together. He went on to a successful career in real estate and home sales with Cavco/Palm Harbor, where he also valued the mentorship and friendship of James. Scott loved people and had a natural ability to connect with them. Outside of work, he loved fishing, camping, grilling, boating, lake days, traveling and the beach. Fishing was especially meaningful when shared with his children, including watching Charlie fish along the shoreline and the trout-fishing memories they made together. Scott and Sally shared more than two decades of life together. Through all the seasons those years brought, they built a home, raised three beautiful children, owned a business, traveled, celebrated milestones and created a lifetime of memories together. Scott loved Sally and was proud of the woman, wife and mother she was. He admired her love and devotion to their children, family and friends, as well as the way she gave her time and heart to their community. Traveling was something Scott and Sally especially loved sharing. Together they dreamed about places they wanted to see and kept a bucket list of beaches they hoped to visit. Of all the beautiful places they traveled, Jamaica held a particularly special place in their hearts. Scott loved sunsets, especially at the beach, and some of their quietest and most meaningful memories were simply sitting together, taking in the beauty around them and watching the sun disappear over the horizon. Of everything in Scott's life, being a father brought him tremendous pride. Charlie was his adventurous, wild comedian. Liam was his strong, brave warrior. Scarlett was his smart, kindhearted girl with a beautiful soul. Scott loved their individual personalities, their big dreams and watching each of them become their own person. Scott's spirituality was deeply meaningful to him. He was proud of his decision to be baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and treasured his spiritual family and friendships at the Kingdom Hall. Whether boating, fishing, watching a sunset or noticing something small in nature, Scott appreciated the creativity he saw in Jehovah's creation and loved sharing those discoveries with Charlie, Liam and Scarlett. He treasured simple moments with friends - sitting around a campfire with John while the children chased fireflies and listened to John talk about the wonders of Jehovah's creation, as well as the many phone conversations he shared with his dear friend DJ. Among the scriptures especially meaningful to Scott were Isaiah 61:1-2 and Revelation 21:4. The promise of a time when death, mourning, crying and pain will be no more holds especially tender meaning for those who now grieve him. Scott was preceded in death by his father, David Amburgey; his brother, Matthew Amburgey; and his grandparents, David and Imagene Everroad. He is survived by his wife, Sally Amburgey; their children, Charlie, Liam and Scarlett; his mother and stepfather, Karen Sue and James McKnight; his stepmother, Rena Amburgey; his brother, Jason Amburgey; his mother-in-law, Clair Ross; his nieces and nephews; and extended family, friends, colleagues and spiritual brothers and sisters who loved him dearly. Scott will be remembered in family trips, lake days, beach sunsets, fishing lines, campfires and fireflies, laughter, conversations and ordinary evenings together. May the memories of the life he lived, the beauty he noticed and the people he loved remain long after today.
